    Product barcodes: several GTINs and the primary code

    A product can hold several GTIN or CNP codes. See how to add them and how to pick the primary one, which prints on labels and goes to integrations.

    Some products end up with more than one barcode for exactly the same unit: the supplier changed its EAN, the packaging was rebranded, or old and new boxes are in circulation at the same time. LogisticsWMS lets a product carry several GTIN and CNP codes, with one of them marked as primary.

    What the primary code is for

    Every code on the product is valid for scanning | receiving, picking, packing and inventory recognise any of them. The primary code is the one the application uses whenever it has to report a single code for the product:

    • the code printed on product, reception and volume labels;
    • the code returned by the LogisticsWMS API;
    • the code sent to MVO PT when nothing was physically scanned.

    Add another code to a product

    1. Go to the Products menu and open the product.
    2. In the barcodes section, select + Add.
    3. Enter the code and choose the type: GTIN or CNP.
    4. Select Save.

    The first GTIN (or CNP) you add becomes the primary automatically. Every code you add afterwards is stored alongside it and changes nothing about what is printed or sent out.

    Change which code is primary

    1. Open the product and go to the barcodes list.
    2. The current primary has a green check in the Primary column.
    3. On the code you want to promote, select Set as primary.
    4. The green check moves to that code immediately | labels printed from then on use it.

    Please note

    • Only GTIN and CNP accept more than one code per product. The remaining types (GRAI, GIAI, CPID, GMN) still allow a single code each.
    • A code has to stay unique across your whole catalogue: the same code cannot be assigned to two different products.
    • If you delete the primary code, the oldest remaining code of that type is promoted automatically, so a product is never left without a primary.
