Kardex (ASRS)
Connect the WMS to a Kardex automated storage and retrieval system.
What it does
Connect the WMS to an automated storage and retrieval (ASRS) Kardex system, automatically routing stock operations to Kardex-managed locations.
How it works
- Once configured, any stock operation (putaway, picking) at a Kardex location is automatically routed to the equipment, with no extra manual steps.
- Settings include connection parameters (host, port, credentials) and operation parameters for putaway / retrieval.
- An Audit tab logs every operation and any communication errors with the equipment.
- If the Kardex refuses a picking, for example because the container it needs is still attached to an older order, the picking's detail window shows the reason and, when a container is to blame, a button to free it.
How to set it up
- Activate the plugin under Plugins → Other Integrations.
- In Settings, enter the connection parameters (host, port, user, password).
- Adjust operation parameters - boolean settings toggle directly; the rest require click-to-edit, change, confirm.
When the Kardex refuses a picking
- In the Cockpit, click the info icon next to the picking to open its detail window.
- At the top, a yellow banner reads This picking was not accepted by the Kardex, followed by the message the Kardex returned (for example, that a container is in use) and the time of the Last attempt.
- If the failure names a container the WMS knows, click Free container (the button shows the container's code).
- When it works, the banner shows Container freed. The Kardex will retry on its own. There is nothing to resend: the Kardex picks the order up again on its next attempt.
💡 Note: the WMS only frees a container that is empty and whose orders have all finished. If the container still holds stock, or an order using it is still in progress, nothing is changed and the banner explains why, naming the order when that is the cause.
Important notes
Requires a stable network link between the WMS and the Kardex equipment - communication failures are logged in the Audit tab for diagnosis. The banner and the Free container button are available to any warehouse user who can open the picking, without access to the Audit tab.
