Picking
Warehouse Order Preparation
Picking is the activity of retrieving specific items from storage locations to fulfill customer orders. It is statistically the most expensive warehouse operation, often representing more than 50% of total operational costs.
Picking Methodologies Supported by WMS
Discrete Picking
One operator processes one order at a time, from start to finish. Ideal for low-volume operations or high-value products.
Wave Picking
Orders are released at specific times to align with carrier windows, optimizing shipping logistics.
Batch Picking
The operator collects multiple identical items for different orders at the same time, significantly reducing travel.
Zone Picking
The warehouse is divided into sections and each operator "owns" a zone, passing the box from zone to zone until complete (pick-and-pass method).
