What is Shipping/Dispatch?
Shipping/Dispatch is the final phase of the logistics process within the warehouse. It encompasses the set of tasks that ensure prepared orders are correct, properly protected, and loaded onto the right transport vehicles to reach the final destination on the agreed deadline.
Dispatch stages managed by WMS
Verification (Check-out)
Final verification (usually via barcode scanning) to ensure that what is in the box matches 100% with the customer order.
Packing and Weighing
Determination of exact weight and volume for shipping cost calculation and transport label issuance.
Route Consolidation
Grouping of boxes by carrier or geographic zone in the staging area (Staging Area).
Loading and Document Issuance
Vehicle loading and automatic generation of delivery notes, CMR, and other legal documents.
The value of WMS in dispatch
Errors in dispatch are the most expensive (generate returns and dissatisfaction). The WMS acts as a quality filter, preventing an order from leaving if there is a discrepancy, and ensures the carrier receives digital information (via EDI/API) so the customer can track their order immediately.
