    Opportunistic Cross-Docking

    Comprehensive Definition

Unlike planned cross-docking (where it is known before receiving that the product will ship out), Opportunistic Cross-Docking is an intelligent WMS feature that identifies, at the precise moment of unloading, that the product that just arrived is needed to fulfill a priority order that entered the system minutes earlier.

    The Algorithm Magic

    1

    Barcode Scanning

The operator scans a product's barcode at receiving.

    2

    Backorder Verification

The WMS instantly checks the list of Backorders (pending orders).

    3

    Alert and Redirect

The system issues an audible/visual alert: "Do not store! Take directly to Shipping Dock 4".

    Result

The cost of placing the product on the shelf and retrieving it hours later is eliminated, accelerating the company's cash flow.
