    Dock-to-Stock Time

    What is Dock-to-Stock Time?

Dock-to-Stock Time is one of the most critical KPIs (key performance indicators) for warehouse efficiency. It measures the total time elapsed from when a truck arrives at the dock for unloading until the product is stored on the final shelf and available for sale in the system.

    Why is this KPI Important?

If your Dock-to-Stock time is 48 hours, it means the product is "stuck" in the warehouse and cannot be sold online, even though it's already physically there. Every extra hour in this process represents:

Lost sales — stock exists but is not available in the system

Occupied space — receiving areas become congested

Operational cost — more handling, more team time

    Optimization via WMS

A modern WMS drastically reduces Dock-to-Stock Time through:

    Blind Receiving

The operator scans barcodes and the system automatically validates against the purchase order, eliminating manual paper-to-paper verification.

    RF / Mobile Terminals

Mobile devices that allow real-time receiving registration without needing to return to a fixed computer for system entry.

    Intelligent Put-Away Algorithms

The WMS immediately indicates the nearest and most logical location for storing the product, reducing travel and operator decision time.

    Excellence Benchmark

High-performance companies work with Dock-to-Stock times under 4–8 hours. If your operation takes more than 24 hours, there is a significant improvement opportunity with WMS implementation.
