What is Hub & Spoke?
Hub & Spoke is a logistics and distribution network model inspired by the structure of a bicycle wheel: the Hub represents the consolidation center and the heart of the operation, while the Spokes are the routes that connect this center to peripheral points (regional distribution centers, stores, or end customers).
How does the flow work?
Instead of having direct and fragmented routes between all points (which would be extremely expensive), all goods are sent to a central point (Hub). There, the cargo is sorted, consolidated, and re-shipped to final destinations.

Strategic Advantages of the Model
Economies of Scale
By concentrating volume in a single point, the company can fill complete trucks (FCL), reducing the unit transportation cost
Route Simplification
Drastically reduces the complexity of the transportation network. Instead of hundreds of crossing routes, management focuses on main corridors
Processing Efficiency
The central Hub can be equipped with high-tech systems (such as automatic sorters) that would not be viable in multiple small warehouses
The Role of WMS in the Hub & Spoke Model
In this structure, information accuracy is critical. The WMS at the central Hub must be able to manage massive inbound and outbound volumes using techniques such as Cross-Docking, ensuring that goods arriving from suppliers are quickly sorted and placed at the outbound dock for the corresponding "Spoke", minimizing warehouse dwell time.
