What is FCL?
FCL, or Full Container Load, is a maritime or rail transport mode where an entire container is used exclusively by a single shipper (customer). Unlike LCL (Less than Container Load), the exporter does not share space with other shippers, offering greater security and handling agility.
Strategic and Economic Advantages
Security and Integrity
Since the container is sealed at origin and only opened at destination (or customs), the risk of damage from intermediate handling is drastically reduced.
Cost per Unit
For large volumes of goods, the shipping cost per cubic meter is significantly lower than for fractional loads.
Transit Speed
Avoids the stops and waiting times required for consolidation and deconsolidation of goods from multiple customers.
The Role of WMS in FCL Flow
A modern WMS optimizes FCL shipping through Container Loading Planning. The system calculates how pallets should be arranged inside the container to maximize space and respect weight limits, automatically generating the Packing List and customs documents required for export.
