    Drones (Logistics)

    Comprehensive Definition

Drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are transforming modern logistics through two main fronts: internal warehouse management (inventory) and external delivery to the end customer (last mile). They represent the future of automation where the barriers of height and ground traffic are eliminated.

Practical Applications Managed by the WMS

    Automatic Inventory

In warehouses with high-rise racking, drones equipped with long-range readers fly autonomously through aisles, reading pallet labels in hard-to-reach locations. This eliminates the need for forklifts or scissor lifts, increasing safety and inventory speed by 10 times.

    Last Mile Deliveries

Used for transporting lightweight or urgent packages (e.g., medications or critical parts) in hard-to-reach areas or congested urban centers, reducing delivery time to minutes.

    Technology Integration

For a drone to be useful, it must be connected to the WMS. The system sends the flight plan and the list of SKUs to verify. The data captured by the drone (such as confirmation that a pallet is in the correct location) is integrated into the warehouse database in real time, correcting stock discrepancies instantly.
