What is an AGV?
AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) are robotic cargo transport vehicles that operate autonomously within warehouses and industrial facilities. These machines require no human driver and are used for repetitive tasks such as transporting pallets from the receiving area to the shelving zone or moving components to production lines.
Navigation Technologies
Modern AGVs use various systems to navigate the facility:
Laser Navigation (LGV)
Use sensors to map the environment and reflectors on walls.
Magnetic Wires or Tapes
Follow physical trajectories embedded in the warehouse floor.
Computer Vision and AI
The latest versions (often called AMR - Autonomous Mobile Robots) use cameras to avoid obstacles in real time.
WMS Integration
For an AGV to be effective, it must be perfectly integrated with the WMS/WCS. The management software sends mission orders directly to the vehicle, which executes the movement and confirms task completion in real time, keeping inventory updated without any human intervention.
