    Replenishment

Transferring goods from reserve to the picking face

    What is Replenishment?

Replenishment is the logistics process of transferring goods from reserve storage locations (typically high rack levels or remote zones) to Forward Picking locations (low levels with easy access). The goal is to ensure that the picking operator never encounters an empty shelf, which would cause a stoppage in order production.

    WMS-automated replenishment strategies

An intelligent WMS manages this flow proactively to prevent stockouts:

    Reorder Point Replenishment

The system automatically generates a replenishment task as soon as stock at the picking face drops below a defined minimum level (e.g., when only 5 units remain).

    On-demand Replenishment

The WMS analyzes pending orders and, if it detects that stock in the picking zone is insufficient to fulfill them, orders immediate stock movement from reserve.

    Top-off Replenishment

Usually performed during low-activity periods, where the system takes the opportunity to fill all picking faces to maximum capacity, preparing the warehouse for the next shift.

    Advantage in Portugal

In e-commerce and retail operations, efficient replenishment eliminates time lost by pickers waiting for forklifts, increasing operational fluidity and delivery SLA compliance.
